Green Home Grants - New Updates!

Landlords will be pleased to hear that the Government approved Green Homes Grant has now been extended to 31st March 2022. Some landlords found that they were unable to book work to be done in time before the scheme ended, and this was taken into account.

The Green Homes Grant allows landlords to obtain grants of up to £5,000 to install insulation and improved energy efficiency or low carbon heating systems. In order to be eligible, the property must be in England and applications must be made through the website here: https://www.simpleenergyadvice.org.uk/green-homes-grant/questionnaire

The Grant was introduced to assist landlords in bringing up their property to an EPC rating of E or above after legislation governing the rental sector was introduced which made this a legal requirement. This can cause considerable problems for landlords who have older, character properties which although prove very popular with potential tenants, are not the most efficient to heat and power.

However, with the assistance of the Green Homes Grant and the news that the scheme is being extended, it means landlords are able to potentially obtain a voucher from the Government, which covers two-thirds of the cost of qualifying works to the property.
