The Government's 'How To Rent Checklist' - Important Updates
Today, the government have issued an updated 'How to Rent Checklist' – this is one of the most important documents which landlords and agents deal with.
This document, which must be issued to all tenants prior to the start of their tenancy, has previously not been updated since August 2019. If a landlord or an agent fails to serve this document on their tenants then it will invalidate any Section 21 notice which has been served and could affect a landlord’s ability to regain possession of their property.
The new 'How to Rent Checklist' can be found on the gov.uk website and landlords need to keep proof that tenants have received this document. This usually is in the form of asking tenants to sign to confirm they have received the document.
