We're Starting To Feel Festive!
At Taylor & Co we all get a little bit excited when Christmas appears on the horizon and with the arrival of December, discussions have definitely turned towards decorations, cooking and preparations for a Zoom office Christmas party! In terms of decorations, it has been apparent that each of us are taking a natural, plastic-free approach wherever possible and as we've been sharing our ideas with each other, we thought it would be a nice idea to share them here with you!
An array of lights outside your home can really lift the spirits of anyone returning home after a long day at work. You might find that your neighbours also appreciate the festive display and it could inspire them to do the same with their homes and brighten up the whole street! You can go for cool-toned blues and whites, warming yellows and golds or go crazy and opt for a rainbow of colours! If you want to be low-key dressing potted plants or shrubs in outside-friendly pin lights can achieve the desired effect without going over the top! Lights, although not necessarily plastic-free, can be re-used year after year.
Whilst out walking, if you collect berries, pretty leaves and even fir cones, these can be displayed on a homemade wreath on your door or used to adorn a garland across a mantlepiece to really draw the eye to the main focal point of the room.
Berries and fir cones can also be used to create pretty table decorations which can hold pride of place in the centre of your dining table. If you want to incorporate candles into your display, remember to keep the wick away from any greenery so that, while you may be vigilant, you can relax knowing that your decorations are as safe as possible!
Consider using natural alternatives to plastic and glass baubles on your Christmas tree this year. Perhaps an orange studded with cloves could adorn your tree instead. These have the added bonus of smelling delicious and will waft a Christmassy scent around your home.
Finally, never underestimate the power of a Christmas scented candle. Certain scents such as cinnamon and pine can awaken the festive spirit in even the most stubborn of Scrooges! It is worth looking at the ingredients of your candles before making a purchase; natural, soy candles give off less harmful gases into the air and there are several local, Dorset companies who make the most exquisite botanical-based candles and wax melts.
